  29. Compose is a Windows application with four major uses:
  30.  
  31.         1. Allows easy mnemonic access to characters not found on your
  32.            keyboard such as "1 2" for the ╜ character, "c /" for the ó 
  33.            character, "a^" for the Γ character.
  34.  
  35.         2. Allows easy dialog box access to the individual characters of
  36.            a font. This can be quite helpful for symbol and dingbat fonts.
  37.            A listbox with all of the characters of a font is displayed;
  38.            double click on the desired character and it will be sent
  39.            to the current application. No more guessing or searching
  40.            around for symbol and dingbat font reference cards.
  41.  
  42.         3. Allows easy access to the current date and time. A quick
  43.            mnemonic sequence of keys send the characters of the current
  44.            date and/or time to the current application.
  45.  
  46.         4. Previewing of the many scalable typefaces (commercial and
  47.            public domain) that are available for Windows. You can preview
  48.            a font from a window or you can preview all the characters on 
  49.            paper by printing the entire font in the point size and style
  50.            that you desire. Technical information about the font can also
  51.            be printed. There is also an option to print sample strings of
  52.            all fonts.

  55. Installing Compose
  56.  
  57.         If you have a previous version of Compose, you may want to
  58.         save your COMPOSE.DAT file. After installing Compose you can
  59.         compare the new COMPOSE.DAT with your old COMPOSE.DAT and update
  60.         it accordingly.

  62.         Copy the following files to your Windows directory:

  71. Starting Compose
  72.  
  73.         You can start Compose in one of four ways:
  74.  
  75.                 1. From the DOS command line: WIN COMPOSE
  76.  
  77.                 2. Add Compose to a Program Group within the Program
  78.                    Manager. Simply double-click on the Compose icon
  79.                    that was added to the specified group.
  80.  
  81.                 3. Add Compose to your "load=" or "run=" line in WIN.INI 
  82.                    to start Compose automatically each time Windows
  83.                    starts up.

  85.                 4. Use the Program Manager's File/Run dialog box to
  86.                    start it.

  91.         Once Compose has been started, you may get an overview of what
  92.         Compose is by selecting "Overview" from the "Help" menu.
